Family estate Koho

Our family estate Koho is located in southeastern part of Finland right at the Russian border in county Ruokolahti. The farm is mentioned already in 1742 in the land registration books and it has been in the possession of this family since then. The farm was passed to our possession in 1970 and then the milk cattle was the main production line.

When the field acreage increased in the 80's we got cows with calves. In the middle of 90's we also obtained sheep and at the same time we also started gradually to change towards natural farming. At that time we also gave up the cows with calves and in 1997 we also finished keeping the milk cattle.
Then there were left only few cows from the original East-Finnish cattle and the sheep, of course. In the spring 2000 we decided to give up the cows totally and focus on the sheep farming. In autumn 2002 we had to give up the sheeps too due to our own health.
